A dog bite can happen in a blink of an eye and carry lifelong physical and emotional scarring.

The attack occurred while the victim was on public property or on private property lawfully, including the dog owner's property.
The person bitten did not provoke the dog.
A dog bite victim or their family member has three years from the date of the attack to file a dog bite lawsuit.

DO I HAVE A DOG BITE LAWSUIT?

Dog bite victims under 18 at the time of the dog bite attack have until they reach their 19th birthday to file a dog bite claim.
If you or a family member suffered injuries from a dog bite, you might have grounds to file a lawsuit. Under Michigan's strict liability law, the dog owner is liable if their dog attacks or bites another person under the following circumstances:

Who Pays for My Child’s Dog Bite Injuries?

In most cases, the dog owner’s homeowners’ insurance will cover your injuries and losses. If your damages exceed the policy’s limits, we can hold the dog owner personally liable for the difference.

What If the Insurance Policy Doesn’t Cover Dog Bites?

Some insurers won’t cover certain breeds of dogs or the dog owner may not have dog bite coverage on their policy. We can help you explore other means of compensation.

How Long Do I Have to Sue a Negligent Dog Owner in Michigan?

Michigan’s statute of limitations allows you three years from the date of the dog bite injury to file a personal injury lawsuit in civil court. Some exceptions exist for minor children but don’t delay in seeking legal representation. If you miss the deadline, you won’t be able to seek compensation through the courts.
